Martin season here we come!

Go ahead and get your laugh of the day....it was breezy outside, folks!  :-)
Purple martin scouts have arrived at Matt and Martha's martin houses in town. So it's time to put up our one lone house. Again. James and I were laughing as we walked out to the Meadow with our house. The neighbors must get such a kick out of us...this is our seventh year to try and attract martins. We added two more gourds and capped all the house compartments ( to keep out sparrows and starlings). James is cutting down two old pecan trees in the Meadow, too, in hopes of eliminating "sparrow perches." Wish us luck. Here we go!

Wishing you lots of luck with the Martins! I want to put up some Martin houses too, but it won't happen this year. I like your set up for them, hopefully they'll like it as well ;)

You have such a grand set-up for martins - I feel certain some lucky birds will take note and set up shop there this year. We don't have a clearing large enough for martin houses so I'm banking on seeing good martin action right here! (Would making some teeny tiny welcome mats be any help?).

Well, I should certainly get a load of gold stars for TRYING! This will be our seventh year of putting up the house. Two springs ago was when we had one pair with four eggs. Then the eggs vanished, likely swallowed up by a rat snake. IF we get martins this year, we'll put up our black bird net skirt on the pole as a snake deterrent.
