Alamo vine seedlings

June 2
I love Alamo vine (Merremia dissecta).  I've planted it twice in our back yard gardens. Once in 2013 and the next in 2015. They both thrived but then didn't return the following spring. In 2013, I did manage to salvage some seeds, which I saved. On a lark, I pulled them out and stuck three in a little pot a couple of weeks ago. I kept the dirt moist and....SHA-ZAM! One sprouted! But wait! Two seedlings from one seed? I decided I'd better take a photo. By the time I did, a second seed had sprouted, not one plant but two again! Being the documentarian that I am, I took more photo to show the progression...... I hope to plant my new Alamo vines soon!

UPDATE JUNE 9
My seedlings were certainly big enough to plant so that's what I did last Wednesday morning.

Imagine my delight when I discovered that the other seeds I'd stuck in the ground and watered often GERMINATED! Now I'll have a LOT of Alamo vines this year! I can grow my own!

Hi Sheryl, I have some seeds and am wondering if I can plant them in the ground in the fall? Or do I need to wait til spring?

Hi! They're very easy to germinate. Can you wait until next spring? Otherwise, I'd wait until next year. Just in case. But that's just based on my experience. :-)
