More new natives!

I can't wait! At the Llano Lawn and Garden Show this morning, we purchased six native plants from Barbara Wright and Kathy Comer. Barbara owns Wright's Nursery in Briggs. I'm going to wait until the danger of freezes pass before I plant them. But here's what I got: two purple passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), standing cypress (Ipomopsis rubra), winecup (Callirhoe involucrata), and two old man's beard (Clematis drummondii)

You'll also soon have gulf coast fritillarys. You may even have to protect your plants for the first year or they may get eaten down. Some people have the opposite problem and have to collect caterpillars and bring them home to get the cycle started.

Last year, I made up several activities about pollinators. I found this story and read it to the kids before we built a flower for a pollinator of our choice. (And I'm looking for master naturalist groups that would like to have the materials on file.

Oh yes, we've had fritillary cats on our nonnative passionflowers from the git-go. I belong to the Highland Lakes chapter of Master Naturalists. I'm sure we'd be interested in your activities.
