Wild side of Big Bend

Turkey vulture
This week (May 2), we celebrated our 11th anniversary with a trip out to Big Bend National Park. Instead of boring you with photos of James and me, how about some peeks at the wild side of this rugged, beautiful region?
Scaled quail
Texas brown tarantula (Aphonopelma hentzi)...a handsome fellow!

Millipede (Orthoporus sp.)
A sweet little flower I spotted...Bicolor fanmustard
Greater earless lizard
Fragrant sumac in Chisos Basin
A tattered little Reakirt's blue on Rio Grande palafox inside the Chisos Basin
A scorpion that came home with me!

Later on, I observed why this plant is called BICOLOR fanmustard...because there can be TWO different colors of flowers on a plant! I thought I was seeing things.
Likely a rock wren...spotted inside the Santa Elena Canyon.
Ocotillo
This bee rolling in pollen reminded me of a bee that I observed "vacationing" once in a cactus flower in our Meadow.
I loved watching some carpenter bees that were nesting and guarding a dead century plant in the back yard of the house where we stayed overnight.
The WILD side of us pictured with The Window, Chisos Basin
One last wild shot of us, Santa Elena Canyon, Big Bend National Park. Wonderful trip!
