Behold, a scorpion

This fine specimen of a striped bark scorpion greeted us when we got home last night from the Texas Pollinator Powwow. He/she was on the dining room floor. Normally, I'd turn my head and let James flush a scorpion (I don't have anything against them, personally). But this time, I caught it in a jar and had a photo session this afternoon. Suffice it to say that I didn't flush it afterward......

I'll admit I have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to scorpions. I just can't muster much enthusiasm for them as fellow inhabitants, especially inside our house. Outside I just move them further away from where I'm working. Inside? Most of the time, James and I are of similar practices, shall we say? We mostly see the cave scorpions here.

I know you are going to hate this but the scissors do the job at this house. Someone got a nasty shock when he put his shoes on one day.
