Screech owl!

Yesterday I mentioned how we hadn't seen either of our eastern screech owls. Well, looky here! One was roosting in the second Owl Shack this evening!

As far as we know, the titmice children are doing well in the other Shack.

That's wonderful! Now, tell me, is the owl shack completely exposed or a little hidden? I put one up last fall, but so far no residents. (I'm aiming for a Western Screech Owl, but I expect the'll be somewhat similar.)

One Owl Shack hangs on an abandoned utility pole so it's more out in the open. Our second one hangs in a live oak. It's definitely more secluded; that's the one the owl's using. The titmice are nesting on the pole.
