Another awesome find by James

James found what we believe to be the nest and eggs of the endangered golden-cheeked warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia) on our land! If you think we're wrong, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Great find! Fingers crossed that it is a golden-cheeked warbler nest.

what a beautiful little nest! Did you ever discover the occupant?

I think it's a golden-cheeked warbler nest. :-)

Gotcha. I thought you may have gotten confirmation yay or nay as nesting season progressed. I guess they're very sneaky then, by design, though ;-). I came across your photo while looking for photos of their nests, after hearing one singing from our property. Thanks very much for posting it, and for sharing your world with us!

My husband says the eggs disappeared two days later. Likely a snake. But he’s always finding nests. Two of these photos of his will be published in the upcoming “Peterson Field Guide to North American Bird Nests.” Neat, eh?

ah, snakes, such heartbreakers :-( But how exciting for James! and that will be a great field guide, I look forward to getting a copy. I was looking at some nests on Flickr; this GC WA nest (from 1896!) looks like they stripped a cardinal bare to feather their nest...perhaps found an expired one? https://www.flickr.com/photos/planetcitizen/18673682902/in/photostream/
