Pearl milkweed vine seeds

More seeds from my pearl milkweed vines (Matelea reticulata)! I'm collecting them just in case anyone wants some. My three vines have been very productive this summer. It's the first time I've ever seen a pearl milkweed vine go to seed. Cool!

I loved finding this vine on my daughter's property in Dripping Springs. Wish I had a garden where it would grow. Thanks for sharing.

I transplanted all three of mine. :-)

I've decided native milkweed are my gardener's Great White Whale. I'd say sign me up for seeds but I'm not reading that these occur naturally in Travis County. Worse than that, I've already watched over the NON-germination of several varieties of native milkweed seeds so I don't dare risk yours. They are lovely and all should go to good homes!

Hi there. I am wondering if you still have pearl milkweed seeds?

Sheryl Smith-Rodgers said...

I will soon! They're busting out in blooms!

I'm in San Marcos. Do you have any left?

Sheryl Smith-Rodgers said...

The seed pods haven't opened yet. So I'll have seeds soon.

Oh, I have been reading about these and looking for seeds! Do you still have any you'd be willing to share with a novice gardener?

Elizabeth, email me at sherylsr@ymail.com. I just ask for a self-addressed stamped envelope. If I don't have any right now, I WILL later this summer!

Hello Sheryl!~ I am so happy to find this page! I have been looking everywhere for Pearl Milkweed seeds 'Matelea reticulata'. I successfully grow Tweedia caerulea in pots and over-winter the plants in our cellar. I would dearly love to acquire some seeds for Pearl milkweed from you if you still have any available! Will be anxiously awaiting your response. I am on Facebook Victoria Hanlin (VicLee Gardens)...just a name we gave our Garden! Not a business! Thank you for any help you can give me! ~ Victoria Hanlin.

I am happy to say I have a Pearl milkweed on my property. This is the first time that i have seen this vine and we have been on the property for 23 years. Sheryl can you start it from a cutting? My neighbor lady and her friend want the seed There is only one seed on the plant.

Sheryl Smith-Rodgers said...

That is great about finding pearl milkweed on your place! I don't know about starting from a cutting. You could try emailing mid summer and see if I have any seeds from my vines. Hoping for a good year. The antelope-horns are putting on LOTS of seedpods in our Meadow.

Hello, would you happen to have seeds for the pearl milkweed and antelope milkweed? Would love to try both

Sheryl Smith-Rodgers said...

Hi Kamdy. I’d suggest that you email me next month or so and ask if I have pearl milkweed seeds. I’ve got several pods “working” right now. Then I’d request a self-addressed stamped envelope. As for antelope-horn seeds, I’m keeping my harvest this year for personal use. :-)

Hi Sheryl, we lost our big flowering vines this year, thanks to the snow storm and are looking to replace them with a native climber. Do you still have some milkweed seeds? You can contact me at kimlongacre@sbcglobal.net Thank you so much!

Hello, I am interested in having some of these plants. Do you have some? cc4him2804@yahoo.com

I am looking for plants or sprouted seeds. I’ve tried with 5 seeds. 2 I refrigerated for 2 weeks in a wet paper towel before planting in the soil under my oak tree. 3 I refrigerated in a damp paper towel and planted in potting soil with hopes of transplanting a sprout to the ground. No success with any of the 5 seeds. I’d love to add this vine to my backyard in Dallas. I’m looking for a plant or specific directions on how to cultivate these seeds for the 3 additional seeds I still have. If you have plants or can give specific directions to help me grow these seeds from your experienced success, I’m very interested in hearing from you. I can be emailed at volleyfolly@yahoo.com.
Thank you! Christi
