Federal and state listed plants of Texas

NEW RESOURCE!

In Texas, plant species of conservation concern may be listed as threatened or endangered under the authority of state law and/or under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). Species may be listed as state threatened or endangered and not federally listed. The state list only addresses the status of a species within Texas. The federal list addresses the status of a species throughout all or a significant portion of its range, which may encompass several other states or nations.

Candidate species are those organisms the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has sufficient information on to propose as endangered or threatened under the ESA but development of a proposed listing regulation is precluded by other higher priority listing activities. Unlike species listed under the ESA, candidates receive no statutory protection.

Species are ranked (Global and State) using a conservation status system established by NatureServe.

About Me

My photo
Sheryl Smith-Rodgers
I write for a living. So I sit. A lot. In front of my computer. At a desk. Next to my office window. I'd always thought it'd be so cool to set a bird bath between two live oaks I can see from my window. Then I could take breaks and just watch. Well, I got my bird bath, all right. When I married my husband, James Hearn, in May 2006, I got that. And more. Thanks to the enthusiastic help of my partner, our lawn now brims with native flowers, plants, birds and other wildlife. In 2007, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department certified our yard (front and back) as a Texas Wildscape. In 2012, I became a certified Texas Master Naturalist with the Highland Lakes chapter. Also in 2012, TPWD designated our Wildscape as a Wildlife Habitat Demonstration Site. Since 2016, I've documented 1,400+ species in our one-acre yard, using iNaturalist. From my window now, nearly every day, I watch nature have fun. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to write....
